Electronics and SW engineer but interested in becoming familiar with basic machining. Would like to get a small mill maybe, CNC for my home projects some day. Looks like a friendly place!

Haha thanks. I'm interested in robotics type projects, for example (my old out-of-date site): http://www.emtronics.co.uk/wp_blog/?p=311

I have a reasonable pillar drill and cheap bandsaw but never seem to get the accuracy when trying to cut aluminium. Would like to try and build up some experience for the job.

I'm currently building the MPCNC from **LINK** It's a resizable cnc router type m/c that uses NEMA 17's , steel tubing and 3d printed parts to create a work platform for 3d printing, milling ally and steel, laser work et al.

It would not be a replacement for my small mill but it will give me an alternative and also the skills for cnc'ing my mill.

If you want more friendly people make contact with the Bristol Society of Model and Experimental Engineers.

What you aimto do is right up their street.

Some fairly ambitious CNC machinists as well as conventional.

Well, you certainly got me interested in the MPCNC even though I know next to nothing about CNC.
