Hi Phil

I'm also on the south coast ,still interested in model aircraft but
have not been flying for 15 years,here is the photo of the last
3 models that i built and have never flown and may not do so now.
The 2 either side are identical and based on a Lobbit design
that was in the GTBA papers, the middle delta was based on
on a Finecraft delta i think the Firefly ,modellers of a certain age
will remember the Chris Foss team flying these in formation
at the Sandown park show.
All these models are for Gas turbine power ,the one on the right
has a Shreckling type engine runs at about 100,000 rpm with
only about 6 lb thrust not much by todays standards but probably
enough to fly.The one on the left has a Super Tigre 60 engine
which i had fitted to test fly the model.
The delta has no engine at the moment i have some parts made
for a Kj 66 style engine here in the photo is milled from the solid
compressor wheel on the balancing machine.
I suppose my only claim to fame was with this Ducted fan H.S.Hawk,
bit of a grainy photo from a print won a first place at the Shuttleworth
scale rally in 1982 ,i had left before the end of the show so they had
to send me the trophy ,sadly no cheque .

Anyway, Phil's pseudonym is based on a very old joke. The witty English like to suggest two Scottish gentlemen called Ben Doon and Phil M' Cavity are in a Civil Partnership. The joke is in revenge for Bannockburn, an incident no Englishman has ever heard of or wishes to discuss…

Just a quick introduction from a former 'lurker' having just registered on the forum.

I'm new to model engineering although it's always been of interest to me, I often regret not taking the engineering path as a career having chosen the Army and Fire Service instead. I've always been interested in automobile mechanics with a sporadic sortie into the arena over the years and have returned more recently to RC Model aircraft now that time, family and financial commitments are less than in past years.

I plan on purchasing a mini lathe after realistically thinking about my needs and doing some research including online resources and reading the Nieil Wyatt book which led me to here.

Anyway, I doubt this will be my only post as I have too much to learn which even the magic of YouTube cannot fully explain!

Hi Phil, I seem to recall your namesake and another Scotsman Ben Doon featuring in Rag Mags back in the early 70s. Doubt you will see such publications ever again as most of the content would now now be taboo. Did you eventually qualify as a dentist?
