Plenty of help available on here.

Only start or stop the lathe after setting the speed to Zero.

It is only a low power machine, so do not expect to take deep cuts and high feed rates.

(There will be others on here who will take issue with that. They know their machines far better than I )

The CL300 is essentially the same as the Chester Conquest or the Seig SC2, or SC3.

You will probably get better after sales service from Arc Euro, based on my experience of Machine Mart.

Hello and welcome Steve. It's a good idea to first locate a nearby club (unless you intend running the engine in your garden) because that will enable you to see various locos running and some kind soul will probably let you drive.

Boiler testing and insurance are usually included in club fees and a boiler inspectors advice could prevent a costly mistake.

There are some small 5" engines e.g. Boxhill that are similar in size to a 3 1/2" engine.

Do you have a particular engine in mind?

just a clarification on Howard’s post… the CL300 is more or less a SIEG C2. The machine you have has a brushed motor with hi/low gears.

The SIEG SC2 and SC3 have a brushless motor with belt drive. No hi/low gears.

Some people get confused when ordering electrical spare parts.
