I did buy this from Myfords at a show a few years back. It does not do a great range of length but for small parts up the chuck end it works well in conjunction with a chuck backstop. The device makes use of existing tapped holes so no modification of the lathe required. Don't know if they still have any, maybe worth an eMail.

Did you have to drill and tap any holes for this to fit onto your machine? Where the stop block is on the LH side by the gear box, there is a screw in there for my lathe. I am assuming it is for the alignment of the head stock to the bed. Does that set screw come out and then the block mounts through that threaded hole?

On the rotating stop side attached to the saddle, does it use the top plate holes in the top cover?

      Thanks, Neil Lickfold

As I said the attachmeny makes use of existing tapped holes so it just bolts on. Th e LH fixing utilises the remaining threads in front of the set scews which hold the headstock up against the rear shear. The RHS the allen cap head which is normally used to attach the travelling steady (something I've never used even though I acyiually posess such an animal) is replaced with a longer version. I understand that the hemingway kit does actually state that it will not fit behind the saddle of lathes with power cross slides due to clearence issues. When I bought my unit Myford said that they had the idea and were keen that It was a straight bolt on job without any mods. I also have a Meek micrometer handwheel on the saddle of my S7 which allows easy turning to length within a thou or so anywhere along the bed. With the dead stop for short items I think I'm sorted. Hope this helps.

      regards Martin

PS It's better to acquire stuff that adds to your capabilities rather than getting defeated by chasing stuff that is completely universal. Compromise makes for improvement, perfection stops you dead.
