Helping hand wanted

Hi.

So I am new to all this and looking for some help please.

I have a Rob Roy and have just got a driving truck (well the double bogies and plank to sit on).

What I am wanting to do is:

1. Fit brake(s) to the driving truck

2. Add some buffers to the driving truck

3. Add a hook and screw coupling (LNER style), however fear that I may have to make do with a clevis on both ends.

Problem that I am finding is that there is not a lot of people out there willing to help beginners learn and it is quite off putting.

Can anyone tell me where I may be able to buy the 3 things above if possible.

Find it hard to believe that getting help or advice is hard. Certainly not on this Forum!

Not being a rail man others will need to help, with detail.

A proper screw type coupling will require both right and left hand threads. So likely to be costly if bought.

If Function is more important than Form, a simple internal / external right hand thread arrangement will do what you want.

You are well served for clubs in the North East with Tyneside, Sunderland, South Durham, Chester Le Street and another in Teesside. Before spending on a scale coupling you need to be sure your local club accepts this type. Some clubs insist upon a solid drawbar and clevis type. Blackgates sell various types of couplings. I think 17D miniatures sell buffers. You might not have many options for brakes and have to make them.

I'm in Crook DL15 and have a pile of older Model Engineer magazines you can have for free. They are a tremendous source of information for the beginner. I have them in a shed so no need to break the Tier 3 rules.

Kennions glr do kits of bogies, braked and unbraked, in 3 1/2”, 5” and 7 1/4. I used to make lots of them for the old GLR.

Br: Is there any drawings or anything on how to make a brake that you know of? I have searched online however found nothing.

The buffers may not serve a purpose, however I would be after them to complete its look.

I have seen that I can apply a simple hook and then some chain between driving truck and any extra wagons.
