Help to trace old article

I may have asked this question before but need to ask it again because I have no idea where I saved the info (getting old!!).

Some years ago in ME a short series of articles dealing with the memories of an apprentice? at Greenwich/Woolwich arsenals was published. In one of these articles my father was mentioned.

I have no "history" of him and only knew him for the 14 years between my birth and his death.

Can anyone help? I thought I had the relevant magazines but can't find them.

The articles where probably published in the 1980/1995 era but I,m not sure of the date or the authors name.

Any help anyone? Thanks.

Hi Nathan,

These are the results of typing 'Woolwich Arsenal' into the ME database of articles. There is an article published in 1987 which may be the one.

Searching for “One man” or “One boy” in the field title and “andon” (for Brandon) – and this were the elements I could remember to serve me as criteria for the search in ME_Indexes free application **LINK** , I found the following data:

Volume: 147
Year: 1981
Author: L. Brandon
Issue 3651, page 237;
Issue 3653, page 372;
Issue 3655, page 500;
Issue 3657, page 636;
Issue 3659, page 752;
Issue 3661, page 881
Issue 3665, page 1135.

I think that with the same criteria you could find the same data in the second URL in the Terry's post.

A little while ago I saw an article on a ME course where they were teaching the building of a Stuart turner stationery engine on a one week course. Can someone give contact details of the course or tell me the issue to find it in please?

Hello Gareth.

Using ME_Index free application  ***LINK*** and the criteria STUART or TURNER  (too broad a criteria) in the article title field I found 512 articles (please remember there are more than 178000 articles in the database). If you are interested I can send to you the articles found in an Excel format file. In case you are interested please send a personal message to me.
The search can be more refined if you have some additional elements to add to the criteria.

DC: For a while and every time I will remember I will take care to change the font of my writings to this forum out of respect for you and the other few iPad users participating.

DC: For that post (and this one also) I edited it as usual in the LibreOffice Writer and at the end converted to the Arial font prior to copy and paste it to the forum.

This is only a workaround to colaborate with a surprised Apple iPad user and, in my opinion, not the correct one because can't be guaranted and certainly also not generalized.

The world of IT has run a long way trying to standardize fonts (as well as other items) and has achieved an acceptable status of conformity.

Apple should not expose its customers to dependent situations like this.
After all, the Comic Sans font in the Windows environment is too old to be ignored so daringly. Only to catch a greater market share…

In the bellow URL which I suspect is owned by Apple I can understand there are fragments of a continuing “war” known by me from long ago and I'd like to say that if I don't like Microsoft I am even lesser fond of Apple ***LINK*** .

“I think he should look in Volume 159 on page 379 where he would find the second in a series of six articles entitled “Tricks of the Trade …..” by John Day. On the following page, 380, a Nathan Sharpe is mentioned just under the heading “About Milling Machines”.

The full series may be found at volume 158 pages 322 and 712, volume 159 pages 379 and 510, and volume 160 pages 26 and 224.”
