      Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and the world of model steam engines.

A retired friend has asked me to find a new owner for his project steam locomotive that he bought new many years ago . Unfortunately he is not in the best of health and has recently lost access to his workshop. He has no internet access so has asked me to help.

He tells me there is a complete set of bronze and iron castings and a full set of drawings (dated 1974 by Don Young) to build the engine. None of the castings have been machined as yet.

There is also a set of drawings for a 5" gauge class 37 electric locomotive that might be of interest to someone ?

If anyone could tell me more about what I have I would be grateful. I had thought about listing the drawings and castings on ebay but I have no idea what they might be worth?. I'm not sure if ebay is the best place to find an enthusiastic new owner?.

I have pictures but haven't work out how to post them here yet!.

      Thanks in advance, Steve

I think Don Young called that engine "Lanky", and it was based on a Lancashire and Yorkshire railway locomotive. The drawings were serialized in either Live Steam or Modeltec magazines in the USA.

Sorry I can't help with valuation.

Thanks, I remember now the owner refered to the parts as the 'Lanky tank engine' so that makes sense.

I don't think you really need to know what they are worth as a successful sale on Ebay will decide that for you. Ebay is the way I'd go if I were selling the items. List each engine separately, decide your starting price – I'd suggest £400, others may think differently but that seems about right to me.

I'd offer cash on personal collection or reluctantly, payment by PayPal – I say reluctantly as PayPal will take their cut out of the proceeds in addition to Ebay fees.

If posting in UK I have used MyHermes several times as they are reasonable and our village Post Office is a MyHermes drop off point.

Hope this is of some help and apologies if I have tried to teach granny to suck eggs.

Rik, Thank you that is most helpful – not teaching granny atall… I work as an Engineer but until a few days ago I had no contact with the world of steam.

Ebay seems like a good idea to be fair to the owner and anyone else that might be interested.

I guess the postage would be quite heavy as I struggled to carry all the castings up the stairs together .

                    Cheers Steve
