Can anyone help

I have just bout a ML7 and the chap that sold it to me told me that the dewhurst switch was knackered so he bypassed it and it made it run only in a forward direction.

I have since vought a stand for it which had a extreamly good condition Dewhust switch fitted to it so I proceeded to fit it

However, It only runs in forward direction and just hums in reverse

Any ideas?
