I wonder if any of you fine gentle can help or part with some of your wisdom. I need to thread an internal 1/2×14 NPS. However I cannot seem to source the titled insert in the UK. I am not sure if I am looking in the best places. This is my first foray into insert tooling.

      Thank you,

      Woody.

Perceived wisdom is that NPS is a parallel thread & NPTF is a tapered thread but the form is the same?

Both 14 NTPF and 14 NTP are listed – use the Pitch/TPI tab at the top of the list to show all the available options.

Part number of the 11 IR 14 NPT is 021-50346

They list both types on the same page, try 7th one down, F is the fuel thread.

I don't know for sure, but I recon that 14 tpi would be more in the realm of 16 size inserts. The Cutwel site has the most comprehensive list of these inserts, or maybe APT. Your small starting bore will be the main problem, I would try looking for a tap which may be just as difficult.

My bore will be around .749" so I don't think clearance will be an issue.

Thanks guys I didn't see the options, ordered.

I forgot that you have a pipe thread with a much bigger bore. Use a little pipe thread compound from Loctite and the slight difference in the thread won't matter.
