      Hi Guys,

Thank you for letting me join the forum as a new member. I have recently bought a Bridgeport Milling machine, J head, variable pulley model. On inspection the previous owner/ or owner before that had cut all the wires going to the control box by the knee. I have managed to trace wires back to the main control box via continuity testing. The fault I am having at the moment is when I turn on the machine then turn on the toggle switch ( far left) on the control box, the contactors come on, then when I press the green button the contactor disengages. I know this is wrong because it should be the reverse of what I just said. I have tried all different combinations with wires going to different places on the control box but I just seem to be coming up against a brick wall with this. Has anyone out there got a wiring diagram of the control box so I can get it up and running please??

Have you tried looking on Vintage Machinery.org They have a vast collection of manuals on most machines including Bridgeport. The manuals are all free to download although I think you can make a donation if you wish.

          regards

            Nice to see you Scott,
Perhaps this thread can be renamed "Bridgeport woring help needed" to get more attention from BP owners.

I do have a manual for my Bridgeport. What year is your machine ? ( the serial number contains the date code)

Lots of wiring changes over the years.

                Hi Chris,

The serial no on my Bridgeport is 358130481W.

Does this tell you what model it is and year of manufacture?

You need the actual machine number from the knee casting then look up at at lathes.co.uk or globalmachinebrokers.com The number on the head will not work.

                  regards

Welcome ! I have a wiring diagram that may be right, it is a poor copy. The control circuits seem to be from a 415v to 110v transformer. It sound as though the push button is n/c rather than n/o and operating it drops the contactors. send me a pm and I will try to help. Noel

David, ok that would be great as I'm at my wits end with it. I just want to get it up and running. Cheers
