        Hello All

My name is Roberto and I live in Petts Wood, NE Kent (or SE London depending on which way you are facing!).

I recently bought a nicely kept Boxford A to try and learn some metal turning skills. I'm a keen amateur astronomer and my initial drive to go for the metal lathe was to be able to build adapters for my telescopes. Since joining the forum I have noticed that there's a whole deal more going on in the machinists' world and I look forward to learning from you all!

        Best wishes

        Roberto

            Welcome to the forum Roberto.

The challenge you will find is making neat, accurate screw-threads, this takes a bit of practice but when you make something that neatly screws it a bought item it's very satisfying. I've made a few gadgets like a laser collimator and a new housing for a Microsoft lifecam, as well as a 1.25" to M42 adaptor – the first time I used this the importance of painting the inside black became very obvious!

Thank you for the welcoming words. Neil, I think I may recognise you from another forum from also having an interest in astronomy! Anodising will have to come after I can make a good thread. Looking forward to contributing and learning from all.

              Roberto

                Yep, SGL.

Anodising is on my to-do list, so far I've just been cheating and using paint.

                Neil
