Ive come back to model engineering after a long break while I had a busy career.

Back in the 80s I built a Sweet Pea and steamed it at King’s Lynn and Peterborough. It got sold but the workshop and equipment remained for lawn mower parts and bits and pieces that friends and neighbours needed. It recently had a big clean out and a new VM 25 mill added. The Amolco mill attachment can go and is in the ads. What a difference the internet has made. Youtube has so many good videos to learn from. Looking to make a Wyvern but the helical gear cutting is beyond my skill set right now so not sure what to do.

If you buy the full kit from Hemmingway they include a pair of gears, Have a feeling they may be slightly different to the original spec but can be made to work.

Having now looked closer at the Hemmingway website I see what you mean. Listed alongside other pre made parts.

            Thanks for pointing that out

              Welcome back to the fold!

Peterborough S M E is still, very much alive and kicking. Still looking for a suitable track site after ten years

Next meeting is December 6th for our Christmas party.

Kings Lynn S M E is still going. The website says that they are visiting Wisbech on 12th December.

There is at least one other active Forum member in that sort of area.

              Regards

              Howard

                  Hello Howard and Harry.

Howard, I recall the track at Peterborough was in a walled garden of a big old house. I enjoyed my few visits there towing a trailer with Sweet Pea in the back. I doubt if I will ever make another loco. All the faff with boiler certification etc and the track at Lynn I believe is ground level which isnt my cup of tea. Internal combustion for the new project.

                    Hello Nigel,

The Peterborough track was in the walled orchard of Thorpe Hall, which after a LONG and varied history became a Sue Ryder Hospice. When the Hospice wanted to extend, PSME lost their track, small workshop, and meeting room.

We now meet regularly in the Community Hall in the nearby village of Eye.

One Forum member is at Ringstead, and a former working colleague, who was a contributor to ME, used to live in Heacham, and had quite a large workshop there.

There were at least four other lathe owners in Heacham, but none were M E club members as far as I knew.

One of them made a splendid Showmans engine, and had a large scale model of a Foden C type.

Certainly, one of the others has moved away..

                    Howard

Howard is right, I'm at Ringstead. I was for several years a member at Kings Lynn but had a difference of opinion about a Reeves boiler design and eventually left ! There are clubs at Brandon, Norwich and N Norfolk. Welcome to the party, there is a vast range of knowledge here if you need help – just ask ! Noel.

Hi Noel, I was a member in Kings Lynn and ran my Sweet Pea in The Walks many Sundays giving rides. Alas many of those I knew are no longer with us. Robin Gilding and Mr Stammers were friends. We met in a primary school near the old hospital and at the college I learnt so much at night school machining class.
