      Hello,

I have just retired and always wanted to get into model engineering.

I have just bought a tidy Unimat 3 to practice and learn on. It has a 220w dc motor with variable speed control.

I would quite like a fixed steady for it, if anyone has one for sale?

looking forward to making something steam powered eventually.

      Best wishes to everyone,

      Steve

Welcome Steven, usually lots of info on here very unusual for no response before now — this will surely be rectified. Any questions just ask.

          Cheers John

You can make a fixed steady out of wood and brass screws. Later on make a better one out of aluminium.

A good first project . Not a device needing great precision , mine used brass pins from a 13 amp plug for followers.

Hi Steve welcome to the forum. This steam engine is great for a starter and the drawings are free on line with help on the site.

I made one recently to while away the lockdown boredom.

                      Hi,

Thank you for the warm welcome. I’ve been wanting to get into model engineering for 50 years, but there was always something to take priority.

I live in Holt in North Norfolk. It has been very quiet the last few months, but the little town has filled up with visitors since last Saturday. Our local Budgens burnt down a couple of weeks ago, it took just 8 1/2 minutes from start to finish, frighteningly quick.

making a steady, I didn’t think of that! I need to adopt the engineering mindset of making what I need where I can. I will give it a go. Thank you for the tip.

i have picked up a Stuart 10V kit as a first project, mainly because there is so much information available concerning construction and machining.

Take care everyone, I’ll keep you posted on my first mishaps!
