      Hi all,

have been registered on here for quite a while but haven’t contributed as yet. Currently creating lots of swarf in my small workshop building a large boilered tich which seems to be one step forward and three backwards. Enjoying the learning process though!

I’m a Farrier and a Blacksmith by trade so the machining and fitting is a welcome relief from being mauled about by horses all day!

      Best wishes

      Alex

Welcome, Alex, as you know there's lots of steam engine expertise to draw on and no doubt you will be able to give us some tips also.

Hello Alex and welcome. You may well get questions about blacksmithing on here as it's often thought of as (literally) a black art but there are some beautiful examples about as well as the more mundane.

As for 'one step forward and three backward', it's often the case with model engineering, not always because a mistake has been made, but sometimes the drawings are wrong or not clear, you don't have the ideal tooling so you make do and sometimes you think of a better way of making something.

All the best with your 'Tich'

            Brian

                Cheers Brian!

I will happily offer all the advice on can on forging for those that wish to be bored senseless! It is a black art, you literally get covered head to toe in grot but like all things, when you understand the basics then it’s just a case of practice and more practice!

Tich is hard going at the moment!
