Hello from Bourne, Lincolnshire

Hi All

New to this,so thought the best place to start would be to introduce myself !

Just installed a lovely Myford Tri-Leva in the Worksop, and as a total beginner, will be bound to have many questions along the way. I have some plans ready to start work on a "Powerhouse" engine, but before that, I'll take some time to get used to the lathe, so if there are any Tri-Leva users out there, any help / advice will be very welcome. Even better, if anyone in Lincolnshire has one that would be willing to show me the basics, that would be fantastic.

I'm sure I'll get there, but help / advice along the way always makes the learning process more enjoyable .

Welcome Richard, I'm near Mansfield so not too far away 'though I'm afraid that I cannot help you with the Tri-Lever, but not to worry, someone on here should be able to help.

Keep asking the questions and the answers will come rolling in, and some of them might be right!

My advice would be to join a model engineering society/club/whatever. Bound to be someone who can answer most questions about the kit and ‘how to’ when you are stuck. This forum is like that, but without any monthly meetings, etc! – and a lot more members

There is a thriving club in Peterborough. We, in Stamford, are smaller but have members who travel from Spalding and a couple from Kettering.

Seems like your lathe is up and running? I have never seen a tri-leva, let alone used one. I have ‘to put up with’ a continuously variable speed mechanical drive and a VFD as well.

Hi Richard

Welcome aboard! from another Trileva user. Excellent machines and, as you probably know the Trileva bit makes chuck changing very easy – select ALL three down and the spindle is effectively locked. I have fitted a vfd to mine as well and can recommend it as a useful (when you can afford it) add-on. Enjoy!!

Thanks to all the welcomes, and thanks for the advice Bill on the Trileva chuck removal – That was going to be one of my first questions !! .

+1 to Cornish Jack's recommendations, I have the twin of his ML7 with Trileva and Cowells rack-feed capstan tailstock. Mine has the orig Brook Gryphon 2-speed motor and control gear. I hope you have good use from it.

If you are not already a member, join a local club. There used to be one in Stamford, (not sure if it is still going) and the Peterborough Society of Model Engineers is active, (Check the website) although it still lacks a track site. But that is being addressed!

Bourne is a little distance from Peterborough, but PSME has members from further afield than Bourne.

You'll find club members ready to give advice and help, if requested.
