I've just joined and will probably have loads of questions.
I'm not a model engineer, or an engineer of anything to be honest.
My main interest is old bangers, mainly my old Triumphs – **LINK** and **LINK**
I was after a new lathe, but the prices just increased, so I've bought a Super 7 for half the price I was looking at.
Granted, the Myford is half the size, but appears to have loads of support, I'd love a good one, but my old snotter should do me just fine
I'll be using the lathe for general car related stuff, reprofiling valves, making up odd shaped bolts, spacers, bushes and having a play.
The guy I bought the lathe off had it for 28 years, it was in a bit of a state grot wise, but it's been cleaned, it has a nice 3 phase motor with variable speed , reverse gubbins. A Collet thingy to hold my valves and lots of bit n bobs. My first challenge is to get it level, then I want to make a diff pinion oil seal tool.
… 'I'm not a model engineer, or an engineer of anything to be honest.'… Looking at your cars & looking at the work you've involved yourself on them… who you kidding!
If that's not involved with engineering in one form or another then I don't know what is, don't denigrate your capabilities.
George.
