Long time lurker emerging from the shadows…

Although I don't make models, I've been interested in machining, metalwork and related activities for a number of years. I've also had a strong interest in engraving and coin/jewellery die making for 30+ years.

I'm on the Sussex coast and look forward to gaining and sharing knowledge with other shed dwellers across the world.

      Cheers all,

      Stuart

Hello Stuart and welcome. I have an Alexander 3A and have done some engraving, all simple stuff mind you, I haven't explored many of the uses for the machine yet.

There are bound to be others with relevant experiences and knowledge on here.

              Welcome!

Am envious of your location (Dwelt in Shoreham by Sea until promotion sent us inland )

If it is not too far away, Worthing M E Society were a very active and welcoming crowd when I visited from East Anglia.

Find a local Society and join, for help, advice and social contact; once social distancing becomes history.

An incredible well of expertise and experience on a multitude of subjects on here, and all willingly given.

Welcome, Stuart, I was born in Worthing, have lived in Glynde, Bognor Regis, Lower Beeding, Rusper and Northchapel, in E & W Sussex, as well as Gloucestershire, Surrey, Devon, and now Somerset.

There's a lot of Sussex coast, which bit are you living in?

I grew up in Arundel and now live near Littlehampton. Northchapel is nice, and close to the Warco showroom too!

Hi Stuart & welcome to all things engineering.

I sold a Cat d write off & repaired Ducati monster to a Lady in the RAF down your way a few years ago. Delivery was part of the service. Lovely part of the UK you live in. Regards.

                    Steve.

I lived next to the A283 about a quarter of a mile south of the Surrey border, about a mile from where Warco now is. Back in the 70's, my firm bought a new Myford Super 7, and I think it came via Warco, possibly before the company started, the name Warren, Warner, or Warne rings a bell to me. The guy I bought my 7 x 12 came from Frome in Somerset and had travelled to Warco to pick it up.

I'm now in Weston Super Mare and my posts are about the machine tools at the Helicopter Museum there.

Roger Warren started Warco as a machine tool dealer, I think, before branching out into selling new machines.

So Myfords would have been his stock in trade in those days.
