      I found the ring nut rather slow in use and have recently substituted a quick nut which makes installation and removal much quicker and removes the temptation to take a chance.

      I don't think I have removed mine from the drill even as often as once a year. Maybe 'cos I'm mostly working on small stuff and the drill vice when used can fit along side it, or if big goes on the mill-drill.

        Hoppers picture of woodworkers drill look like the drills used for drilling dowel holes,I have a set somewhere I'll have to dig them out and give them a go

          Mick, just check before you attack a bit of steel sheet, some dowelling bits are carbon steel, if so just take it slowly. with any luck they will be HSS.

          Always be very careful when drilling copper, if the tips break through unevenly it can catch, and wind up the copper around the drill.

            Good advice Ian, I shall approach with caution, the shank end of my drills are flat and I understand that carbon steel had cone shaped ends, probably mistaken though, would probably only try on non ferrous
