If there's a £3 off offer for advance tickets, why does one have to visit the web site to find the entrance fee?

          Regards Ian

I'm hoping to go on Saturday. Just wondering: how come it's on a Friday and Saturday? Why not over the weekend?

Indeed. Snow. Strange they chose winter for a show that appears to have significant outdoor content.

Being about six months from the Midland show in October seems like a good time to me, gives the punters time to save up their pocket money.

ME show always used to be Xmas new Year so a winter show is quite usual.

Not sure what they have going on outside? Usual few hardy soles with their traction engines I expect.

Harrogate – All the show is inside the new fully heated Exhibition Halls (nothing outside as suggested). The weather forecast is cold sleet and sunny intervals so lets have some positivity. Its on Friday and Saturday, as at previous Harrogate Shows the Sunday accounted for about 10per cent of admissions and traders were paying for another days expenses with very little return. Advance discounted tickets are on sale until tomorrow (Wednesday) giving the opportunity to save on admission fees.

My son and I went to the show today and spent a few hours looking around – really enjoyed it. The combination of model rail and model engineering was great, and the fact the stands were randomly arranged made it better IMO – literally mixed it up a bit.

Weather turned out to be a non-issue after all.

                              Thanks.

Hi, I see the Blacker power hammer model can be seen in both videos, in my first job when I left school, they had one of these, and the Blacksmith who was in charge of me, used it several times, and I had to assist him at times by hold up the end of long items he was working on. I got to use it a few times myself before I left for a better job with a better wage. One thing I did learn was that you could make that hammer pat quite gently to crack a nut, or you could give a bit of welly as if to knock the anvil into the ground, they really were quite controllable once you got the hang of it, made drawing out worn road drills and worn pick axes etc. easier, that's for sure.

                                      Regards Nick.

Hi, I've found a photo of that Blacker hammer model, that I took at the Harrogate exhibition in 2005. Anyone who may be interested, can find a few videos The Blacker Hammer being used. There is also an article by Vintage Machinery further down the page.

Is there any word yet as to whether Harrogate (or Doncaster) will be repeated for 2024?

I seem to have answered my own question.  Checked with Yorkshire Exhibition Centre, Harrogate,  who told me “we are not hosting a Model Engineering and Model Railway Show this year”.

Hopefully something might be planned for Doncaster?  Will be a tragedy to lose these major shows.
