I have made this rest with the update he had in issue 176 of Model Engineers Workshop. I now intend to make the end mill sharpening fixture for the rest but I have an awful load of end mills and slot drills, all different sizes in metric and imperial and would require making an awful lot of collets and was wondering could ER collets be fitted to this and would anyone know what size to fit. I was thinking of ER 25’s they are quite cheap at the minute on ebay. In the same issue of Model Engineers Workshop Tony Jefferies completes a Hemmingway kit for the Warden Grinder and it appears to have an ER collet chuck fitted to it. Could anybody advise please.

As far as collet size goes, it depends on the size of milling cutters you use. ER25 goes up to 16mm (5/8" ); ER32 goes up to 20mm (say a 3/4" cutter). OTOH an ER32 collet-holder is quite a bit more bulky that ER25 and may be more difficult to mount.

            Hello Alan, good afternoon.

I made my end mill sharpening fixture to use Morse 2 taper collets. And made its spindle using a modified Morse taper extension socket from ArcEuro Trade (ref. 120-020-00300) **LINK** as you can see **here** .

If you have lots of end mills of different sizes it implies you have some kind of chuck to hold them in use. Perhaps making something that holds that chuck would be the way to go.

Thanks everybody for your help. Have already got a set of ER32’s but considered these to be too big and wondered if 25’s would be a suitable size, they take 16mm and the biggest cutter that I have is 5/8 which 16mm should accept. Any help greatly appreciated.
                  Many thanks, Alan.

                    Hi Alan,

The simple answer is yes. i use ER25 collets on my mill and on my grinder.
