I would like to use a hall effect sensor ic similar to what is used in the Hemingway and Jerry Howell ignition systems but I am unable to find a suitable part no for just the sensor ic?

Does anyone have a part number for one of these 3 legged devices which is readily available?

      Thanks

A quick search of RS (http://uk.rs-online.com) produced 100 hits for hall effect sensor, RS part no 368-3945 for example.

          Cheers, Andy

Many distributor type car ignition systems use a Hall effect sensor with three terminals.  If suitable application info could be found one of these might prove suitable. ( I’ve got one out of a SAAB 900 squirrelled away in the “mite be handy” box.)

The type of Hall effect switch I used with the Jerry Howell TIM circuit I have is a DN6848.

I have also used the UGN3503 in place of this.  According to the Allegro Microsystems (manufacturers) website, the UGN3503 is no longer available, but a suitable replacement is an A1302.

The specs for the 3503 are still on the Farnell site (uk.Farnell.com), maybe you could match up another part if the A1302 is not as easily available.

              Regards,

Thanks everyone for the response, I certainly did not find that ic on the RS site! I thought they should be everywhere,  One of the annoying things is I have some of the Jerry Howell ones somewhere but unfindable at present..

I want to use it to count coach wheel revoutions and and use the number of pulses generated to swicth a pump on and off to spray water and prevent wheel squeal. I hope to use a PIC to do the counting, cannot program one myself but hope to find some help.

Thanks for the pt nos and info

Have a look at this siteHere they stock spare Hall effect sensors for model ignition systems also magnets and complete ignition systems.

You could use a Picaxe instead of a pic and then you could probably do your own programming.
Here is a link to Picaxe http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/picaxe/

Thanks for the suggestion about Picaxe John . Never heard about them before and of course never programed anything—yet!    It would certainly make sense to be able to program it myself so that I could vary the numbers to suit, bound to need some tweaking

Do you have any personal experience of using these devices?

As you expect I see that there is a forum so will do some reading.

Hi John.  I use the hall effect ignition system from this company:
Here you will find several purpose built encapsulated systems plus spare parts such as the sensors themselves and rare earth magnets.  I did tink of making my own PCB and constructing one myself but, being a bit strapped for time decided to use the Just Engines CDI system. It works great and I use it on various small petrol and gas IC engines.

                        Hope this helps

                        Regards   John 1
