Hello, Can anyone tell me the history of Habit and the machines they made, have seen that they took out several patents in the 1940's but thats about all.

I am not interested in the Habit in Litchfield Staffs which is a modern firm maybe trading on the old name.

Thankyou in advance for any historical information.

      Anne

Habit diamond tooling was a quoted company which ended up being taken over during the 1980’s. I was part of the audit team in 1979to 1981. The company produced diamond tools mainly for the ceramics industry. The diamonds were purchased from Hatton garden and individually selected for mounting on cutting tools. The company also produced machine tools and had a patent to produce micro tubes. The company was based in I think Brompton place near West Brompton station in West London. During the 1959’s and 1960s the company prospered and was led by Lord Wigg and Lord Tailmage ( spelling of this probably not correct). There was a rumour flying round that the sales director was the illegitimate son of one of these lords I can’t rememember which maybe tailmage but it was never substantiated and so it remains a rumour spread by the staff. The finance director at the time Doug Waddell was a rugby player for London Scottish. Many of the employees were long serving and loyal to the company. The decline of the ceramics industry in Stoke on Trent spelt the decline and I suspect the end of the company. There was a subsidiary Precision diamond products based in Doncaster which produced tools for essentially allowing the edges to be bevilled in glass doors or glass barriers at banks
