Greetings Harry, try, a new battery, or carefully cleaning the measuring strip on the back of the slide.

I find a 6 in caliper very useful & handy to use.

        Regards

Try giving the plastic measuring strip cover on the front of the fame (the bit with the coarse measuring values printed on it) a good clean with isopropyl alchohol – contamination here can result in iffy readings.

            Also try adjusting the gibs.

A good clean and new decent battery is the usual fix. I have an I-Gaging vernier also I-Gaging scales on my milling machines and have not had any bother with them. The quality is pretty good.

A good strip down and clean with a new battery even revives  middle of lidl calipers

Hi Harry, it could also have a bit of damp in the reading head, take the battery cover off and the battery out, and then put it somewhere quite warm for a day or two, and it might behave itself. I’ve had the problem you describe, with one of mine, and I put mine on top of my central heating boiler casing for a couple of days, and it worked okay after that.

                  Regards Nick.

If the calipers are not giving reliable readings and you have cleaned all the accessible parts then you have nothing to lose by detaching the electronics/display module and cleaning the normally hidden surface of the ‘sensing’ PCB.

Typically there is s label on the back of the calipers that hides the screws holding the plastic moulded housing to the main (moving) body. Generally these screws are a mix of machine screws and binder types so note which come out of which position. The plastic housing probably ‘hooks in’ at one end and also you might finds the odd shim or two. Any metal fragments sticking to the sensor surface will totally confuse its operation so careful cleaning might restore your calipers to full working order.

If you do scrap them save the useful strip of steel that forms the depth gauge.

                        Ian P is right.

Quite often if my Middle of LIDL calliper , or the Z axis readout on the mill, misbehave, a strip and clean puits things back to normal again.

The difficulty mis often keeping the upper gib strip located , (Note which end the holes are and ensure that ikt is correctly located)

Given caliper a good clean and yes it’s working much better, when I power it up it reads 0.010″ every time but if I zero it it stays ok until i turn it off so thanks everyone who comments at least it now usable.
