I want to make an adapter for this 250mm grinding wheel. It has a 76.2mm diameter hole. The grinder arbor is 19mm. Can I make it from aluminium instead of steel? It would be easier to machine it. The wheel weight is ~1.5kg and speed is 2900RPM .

As long as the adapter doesn’t extend outside the cardboard on the stone it should be fine

there should be no problems with using an adaptor of this style but you dont have to make a washer to go on the adaptor just make sure the depth of the diamiter is shorter than the wheel width and the washer can just run on the 19mm shaft of the machine and the same outside diamiter on both parts. As David says make sure the diamiter of the washers are covering the wheel griping diamiter. you can make new ones from the cardbourd from cereal packaging. Always mark on the grinding wheel max speed etc if you replace the card washers.
