I’m making a Table for my belt grinder from Aluminium Alloy. It will have groove cut into the top face for a sliding protractor. Most jobs will be static but there will be times that the protractor or other fitting will need to slide in the groove. I’m just wondering if a strip of brass might be noticeably better than steel. What do folks think?

I would normally make the table from mild steel but it’s not an option for this job as it’s much too heavy. TIA.
