Well, Macclesfield anyway. A bit of a belated introduction, having posted a couple of times already. Really appreciated the advice, thanks.

Getting back to oily hands after about 40 years 'off-the-job' since an apprentice. I've bought a Super 7 (well, 2, one a Mk 1 which I'm going to sell on once fettled), Warco Hobby bench drill, hand shaper (it came with the lathe), all to go in a nice spacious garage workshop with football-pitch-sized bench. Perishing cold today though. Super 7 came with 3-jaw, 4-jaw, faceplate, indexing plate (presumably an incomplete kit), taper turning attachment, vertical slide, bunch of dial indicators, travelling steady, fixed steady and some bits I can't identify yet.

I'll probably try my hand on some simple projects to get my eye back in. Any suggestions?

Hi Steve welcome to the forum. What are you interested in, perhaps some thing to make cutter sharpening, tool sharpening on a bench grinder.

I've got two of those benches. Both have a working space 12" square! wink 2

            Welcome to the forum smiley

Seems like a good plan. I've a 6" grinder (the usual SIP job) & bought a Draper drill sharpening attachment, but definitely notice that when grinding chisels that i'm not square to the wheel & find it difficult to get a good, straight edge.

Once you get going a bit, you might look at GH Thomas's Versatile Dividing Head. He gives full drawings and detailed description of blow-by-blow machining in his book "Workshop Techniques" and the kit of castings can be bought from Hemmingways, or you can fabricate your own from scrap etc. It's all done in the lathe.

By the time you've finished it you will have had a pretty thorough refresher course on turning, boring and milling. I remembered lots of things I'd forgotten long ago since apprentice days, plus a few new tricks.

And its a nice looking bit of kit you have at the end of it all.
