      Hello,

I have recently aquired some Goodwin Castings, they look very good. Are they an old or active business? Any thoughts?

      Many thanks,

Dave Goodwin retired some years ago now and stopped producing castings. The National 2½” Gauge Association acquired his patterns and residual castings for the 2½” gauge stuff and I think Blackgates took over some of his other gauge drawings and castings. His castings were very good unlike some of the rubbish supplied nowadays.

            Stirling,
I also acquired a set of Goodwin castings not too long ago, the 3.5″ga Sirling, with drawings by The Locomotive Company
.  My castings are missing the cylinders which I understand Dave
failed to complete before retiring.  What have you found?

              GWRdriver,

The engine I wish to build next is the Stirling Single 3 1/2″. I will almost certainly build mine to the Clarkson design, as I have most of the castings except the smaller wheels, however I do have the Loco design Co drawings and these look very good indeed!, however no castings!!

My castings are cylinders and I think they are from Conway.

              ll the very best,

                Stirling,
I’d forgotten about this thread . . . So the Conway cylinders
might be a fit?  I’ll have to take a look at the drawings for
Conway to see how close they are but I have all but resigned myself to
brazing up the cylinder assemblies of bronze stock.
                Cheers,
                GWRdriver

Regading your coments on cylinder castings for the stirling single in 31/2 gauge. I have built the Clarkson version of sterling and Conway. Having just had a look, the conway castings are considerably longer. This is bad news because the pony truck splashers on the sterling  interfere with front of the cylinder with the shorter correct castings. On my loco anyway.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

                     Paul,
Not at all . . . it saves me spending time chasing down the Conway drawings.
                    Thanks,
