Having turned various short parts and needing to reverse them for machining on the opposite side I find it very usefull to use loctite or araldite to secure the parts in a mounting in the chuck bored to suit the part.
Today I turned a valve gland which needed screwcutting on the 'other end' and it worked a treat with my bearing fit loctite equivalent after about an hour to set. Warming the parts with a blowlamp taking the parts to about 250/300 deg C allows them to come apart without damage.
Sorry if this may be teaching chickens to suck eggs but some might find it worth a try!
