        Hi There

Get your model(s) on the TV!

Has anyone got any high quality matchstick models they could loan someone for a short while. If so could they contact me direct. I expect the model(s) could be collected and delivered if you can't do this. They would be well looked after and would also be of benefit (I hope) To Model Engineers' Workshop.

There would possibly be a payment from Model Engineers' Workshop for the use of the models and also one from the end user.

        david.clark@mytimemedia.com or PM me.

        regards David

            Hi John

Does not count unless you assembled it yourself.

Surely someone on this forum has a decent matchstick model?.

            regards David

Before the Christchurch earthquakes, there was a match stick model of a sailing ship, in a large display cabinet in one of the Antique Shops, the hull would have been around 3ft long, alas no more. Ian S C

You might have more luck if you have a word with Paul Freshney or Colin Bishop as there has been a matchstick built tug on the Model Boats forum recently.

I think that unused match may be an elf and safety issue Jason. Someone might rub the end and burn a building down. sarcastic

No health and safety are the thing of the past they all died out out years ago we now have Mr Elf who runs around in little circles ensuring he has still got a job and Mrs Safety mithering about Mr Elf and ensureing that there are at least 5 workers to help him change a lightbulb.

                              > I've got a highly detailed 1:1 model matchstick if thats any good

Tempting to cut a bit of 2×2 and say 'here's my 32:1 scale model of a match!"

Has anyone seen the chap who carves amazing things from single matches?

Seriously, I enjoyed making a few matchstick models from kits as a boy. Hobbies list over 30 'kits' and some are pretty impressive, and they are not expensive. For ~£11 you get a showman's engine and for ~£16 you can get a 2' long ship model – I imagine it could easily be finished for radio control!

                              Neil

P.S. look up 'matchstick modelling' on wikipedia – it says the hobby started with 18th century prisoners of war, a full century before matches took off in the UK!

I would have been surprised if you had been flooded with offers – it strikes me (sorry!) that guys who invest a small fortune in their workshops and seek precision in their work may not be the same guys who produce models made from matchsticks. What you need, maybe, is an ex POW.

                                    Cheers

You could always get in touch with any of the HMP Prisons around the UK. From recoillections of a relative of mine they do produce some well detailed models using matchsticks. After all they are not always allowed to use metal due to the risk factor.

I did, but they were kits and didn't survive my teenage years.

How long have we got and would a model from a kit count?
