Nothing here. Now I feel unloved!

Forum speed fine. I am developing the habit of clicking on a few new posts (central mouse button to open in new window) before going off to check emails. Then all open on return. Makes it easy.

The name on this site is Mortons Media Group, so who are those others and why they might have sent you a message?

I’ve had a similar e-mail.  Nothing to do with Mortons.  I used to subscribe to the Sky at Night magazine.  Their parent company has changed and, because they have retained subscription data on me, they are informing me who now holds that data.  Which seems to be a responsible thing to do.

One of the companies named in the Wikipedia entry is Magicalia who, IIRC were once publishers of ME & MEW ?

That all seems fine and logical … and the text that I  linked is a model of clarity, which is encouraging.

As per my opening post: I was just curious, so it’s ‘Case Closed’

                  Thanks

By coincidence, and not related, but for the first time ever I have just had an ‘Accept some/all or Reject’ message pop up when I opened this website using my usual latest post shortcut.

As far as I remember I’ve not seen one before from model-engineer.co.uk

As far as I know I’ve been cookie enabled on this (and all) sites (I dont think some sites would be easy to use without cookies.

I know this site (and the old one) had a propensity to randomly log users out, my experience over the last two or three years is that it has only logged me out about for times, one being last week.

Yes, I got that pop-up too, Ian … and had never seen it before.

as is my standard practice, I selected Reject

… everything still seems to work, but my screen now has a persistent Cookie image at the bottom-left, to kinda balance  the  Privacy.Terms icon at bottom-right.

                        Ian,

I also noticed the change in Cookie policy this afternoon ie the option to ‘Reject All’ is now included. That is good news, and hopefully it means what it says.

Hmm…just had a quick read of the Cookie Preferences that Michael mentioned, and noticed there may (or may not) be Cookies that are ‘always active’ and required to make things work, they say.

                        Always Active.

I think the legal requirement to tell a website visitor that cookies are in use has been around for a few years, I wonder if Mortons’s have only just twigged😢

I have just clicked on the cookie icon and was able to customize (US spelling) my preferences.

It’s not so much an image, as an icon which opens up a pane where you can changer your preferences.
Yes it’s the first time I’ve seen this particular on on any web site, and is provided by a company called Cookieyes to comply with GDPR etc.

True, Bill … [sloppy wording on my part]  … but having made my selection AND saved my preferences, it persists.

I suppose they’re offering me the chance to reconsider.

Yes I got the cookies pop-up for the first time too just now. As I usually do, I took the option to customise and found that “functionally necessary” cookies were turned on by default (and couldn’t be turned off). Everything else was off. I think I’m supposed to believe that this is the default if you just click “Accept” on the first screen. I don’t see that follows though.

I was about to respond that I’ve never seen this and have remained logged in since the new site opened. Then I realised I’d been logged out !! 🙁

I suspect the most cookie handling add-ons, plug-ins or programs will have the option to display their origins, company name or whatever on screen or be hidden.

The team or management at Morton’s have obviously chosen to show the icon without realising that it is taking up space that could be sold for advertising😉
