I have just finished phase 1 of my latest project – a 5 foot long rear paddle steamer – at present powered by an electric motor. Phase 2 is steam power and I'm well on, having built the boiler and started on the cylinders. What I need now is information- and possibly a proven design- for a gas torch burner for the boiler. The fire tube is 1 inch od, so the burner has to fit that. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful. Thanks.

By the way, if anyone's interested, you can see the development of the steamer here:-

It might be worth having a look at myfordboy on YouTube, part 12 of his constructing a traction engine article, which uses a cheap pencil gas torch as the basis of the gas burner.

Thanks for that, but I think it might be a bit too small. My boiler is about twice the size of his so it's going to need a lot of heat.

I have seen a burner in the form of a Bunsen burner with the end blocked, and holes along the barrel for the flames. I think it was about 1/2" diameter x 4" long.

If you want a torch type burner why not buy one from Sievert, or canibalise one off a blowtorch?

If you want a poker type then **LINK**

                is quite good.

If you want radiant heat (might be optimistic inside a 1" tube) then **LINK**

look good. I think Cheddar used to make something similar, but can't find them on the interweb

Thanks for that guys. You have given me a few ideas.

I've got a spare Ronson gas torch lying in the workshop.

I think its about to be modified.

                  Peter.
