Garrett 4CD, Suggested reason for slots in the spring

I'm pretty certain the slots in the spring leaves on the full size engine fit around pins in the leaf below to keep the leaves aligned so they do not rotate into something like "Lady Wotsits Fan", I expect Chris d'A has designed an alternative method to keep the leaves aligned to simpify construction of the model.

I wondered about that, but I have several pictures of full size engine springs, and they show no sign at all of holes or pins.
