hi all I’m trying to learn fusion 360 which is challenging I’m watching Paul mcwhorters videoes and in lesson 6 **LINK** at 1hr 4 mins he creates a 3D fillet on a hinge when I try to do this my blue indication arrow points the wrong way and I can’t see a way on making it move horizontally along hinge plane it’s starting to frustrate me, any ideas see pic

Does not look like your hinge parts long edge is actually against any surface so probably why it won't create a fillet as it needs an internal corner eg junction between box side and underside of hinge

 

EDIT, I just sketched something similar and it worked fine.

You look to have drawn the hinge on the wrong plane, possibly clicking on the box side and sketching onto that rather than the plane, zoom out so you can select the planesticking up above the box  trying to select the plane that is part obscured by the box will actually select the box side

Hi Richard,

You can only fillet an internal corner if the two converging faces are on the same body. If the hinge is a seperate body than what it is attched to you'll only be able to fillet the edges of the hinge's body, this is why the arrow is pointing the wrong way.

To fillet an internal corner you need to join the hinge and the other part, you could use Modify/Combine. Or when you extrude the sketch of the hinge profile, make sure the Operation is set to "Join" in the extrude dialogue box instead of New Body.

There is also something wrong with your hinge part, what should be a hole through the block is just a "tube" as you can see the outside of it and the block itself is also just a shell as there are no ends.

I'd suggest watching Lars Christensen's videos, that guy sounds a bit unsure of what he is doing.

Yeah I just noticed Richard is using the Surface workspace tab. For solids, use the Solid workspace tab.
