I ordered a stainless steel protractor the other day and this turned up instead, a depth gauge. Apparently it counts as a protractor as it has the same part number and has a couple of angles scribed on the back!? It obviously looks nothing like the Protractor I ordered and is not pictured anywhere on the website that I could find! Not impressed but they finally agreed to refund on its return.

Two recent experiences with Amazon.  One, I ordered a flat needle file, a good make, listed as 1mm thick as I needed to file out a narrow slot.  What turned up was one 1.5mm thick.  Return requested, but got an immediate refund with no need to send back.  Then yesterday a package of “FR4” pcb arrived, turned out to be a paxolin board.  Again, immediate refund with no need to return.

I ordered a L0 size backplate recently and received an L00 (they are easily confused). The supplier immediately sent me the correct item and, although I was quite prepared to return the one sent in error, the dealer has very generously told me to keep it. So, if nobody in the club to which I belong wants it, as I am giving any member the first chance to acquire it, it will be advertised at about half-price for anyone else who may have a use for it. I understand the L00 fitting is found on Harrison 140, L5, L5A & L6 lathes and very possibly the Boxford VSL (?).

I bought this item from an advertiser on here. I had to send a couple of emails with pictures before they agreed to let me return it (at my inconvenience) for a refund.

I have a couple of rusty examples of Vic’s  ‘protractor’. Any suggestions for how to make a new rod with scale? Nice crisp black marking on a white background would be nice though the whole thing is a bit small for my old eyes.

                Chris –

The Harrison L5, at least the earlier versions as I own, has a screwed mandrel, not L-series fitting.

OK, I can’t dispute what you say, I am only going by the information I found online and on Lathes.co.uk. When it comes up for open sale, after my fellow club members have had the first chance, I would assume only those with the L00 fitted lathes would be interested, if at all.

Greetings, I have an 1100 which is much the same as the L5A, with 11 inch swing, as has the slightly later 140 model.  Both these have the LOO backplate fitting.  I fond it very easy to use, and positive.  You need the special “C” spanner to secure and remove chucks etc.

                    Regards

                    Brian B
