Hi

I have just discovered these US Army engineering courses. They are free to download as pdf files for which you will need Adobe Reader which is also free.

Well worth a look for beginners and experienced alike.

A very good “book” on the Internet (HTML) from the site of Chris Heapy:

Notes on Workshop Techniques

This book is on “The Model Engineering Support Page”

Unfortunately, this very good site disappeared some time ago, but the good news is that this mirror still exists.

An old American book published in 1868:

A catechism of the steam engine in its various applications to mines, mills, steam navigation, railways, and agriculture
With practical instructions for the manufacture and management of engines of every class (PDF)

Another old American book, in 2 Parts, published 1887 – 1888.

Although the word “modern” is out of date, the old engravings are superb!
