        Hi all

I am trying to find scale plans for a 4 wheeled railway carriage. From the early years of railway travel with 4 to 5 doors each side . Something I can scale up or down to 3 1/2 inch scale.

        Many thanks Mike

                Hi Bill

Thanks for link. This one is 27 feet over body, I only have room for 26 feet over buffers, otherwise it will not fit on my turntable. Although if I scale this down to a 4 compartment coach it will just about fit.

                Many thanks Mike

                  Hi Mike,

I suggest you try Francis Whishaw's book of 1842, "The Railways of Great Britain and Ireland" available from website "archive.org". It must surely be out of copyright by now.

                  Good luck

                  Regards

                  Russell

                        HI Bill

27 feet long is only the body, if you add the buffers on it would be 29 feet. My turntable is 20 inches long, anything over this and the buffers would hit the wall when I tried to turn it. I have emailed York Railway museum to see if they have anything suitable.

                        Mike

                              Bill

My railway is 3.5 inch scale. ie 3.5 inches between the rails. Or put another way, 1/16 scale. When I build anything for my railway it is 1/16 of full size. Thus a 27 foot coach plus buffers would be about 29 feet. 29 feet into inches is 348 inches , divide that by 16 gives a length of 21.75 inches which is 1 3/4 inches to big.

No room for overhang as turntable is right up to house wall. Had to build it this way as space is limited. Yes a 24 foot carriage would be ideal, room for buffers and and a tiny bit left for clearance. I had a reply from York Railway Museum but at present they are in lock down so no help there.
