More like a problem with the predictive text on the device being used to place the wanted add

There is also no time limit on being able to edit your adds if you make a mistake with the title or content

So can't really blame that one on the forum software

        Thanks, Jason.

And for pointing out the post-editing facility which I think is sometimes helpfully used to show the item has been sold or found.

I've asked for these before but perhaps worth trying again under the new management:

          1. The thread listings include author and title. Could they also include the original creation date (seems logical). Then people like me wouldn't accidentally reply to a years-old thread as if it were current.

          2. Could the website clock automatically adjust to the user's time-zone as many forum sites do. It would be a service to us DP's

I get caught by this quite regularly.

I put it down to the way new threads are created – new posters can’t see the ‘create thread’, on whatever they are researching, and the easiest way is to just tag on to the long-completed thread.

The usual way for the experienced computer user might be to start a new thread and include a link to the old thread, if deemed useful/appropriate.

In all honesty it is generally just not knowing how to create a new thread, but sometimes down to lazyness.

As most people tend to use the "latest posts" listing and read/reply to those then there is a recent posts putting it in that list which may well warrant a reply.

Problem is people just start reading the top post and take no notice of it's date or worse don't have their setting to at least take them to the last page of a thread and reply to the first thing they read rather than the recent post lower down the page.

If you only go by the date a thread was started you would also miss out on what was posted in many of the long running threads on the forum.

Software that takes you to the last unviewed post in a thread would probably be the better upgrade which quite a lot of them do have. (this was in my first reply) Still would not stop people who view a reseracted thread for the first time replying to the original content rather than a recent add on.

Might it be more useful for that to be the default setting for the forum ?

At the risk of being thought complacent, generally the Forum causes me few problems.

                  BUT

                  Niggles.

ANNOYING to lose one's just typed text by going back to look at a picture and enlarge it.

Would be nice to be able to post pictures directly, without having to post into an album, and then add to a thread.

Sometimes pictures appear rotated when they should not be, so ability to rotate when viewing would be useful.

PLEASE get rid of the Smiley that appears if you forget to put a space between the the last word and the closing bracket.

A further request re forum software- add an "ignore thread" function similar to the "ignore member" function. There are a few threads that pop up in my "latest posts" list that I find really annoying. It would be great to simply not see anything from those threads by selecting "ignore thread".

Including the thread creation time-date, apart from being logical, allows the user to be fully informed and decide for himself (what a concept).

Can I suggest the facility for people to display a location adjacent to their names if they wish.

Maybe just a country (the site being international) or an approximate location within a country might be useful for some posts.

In order of usefulness (to me) …

                          1) Spell check, as I type

                          2) Post numbering eg #123

                          3) Use mouse for Cut and Paste rather than KB shortcuts

                          4) Ability to keep an archive list of useful (numbered) posts. Currently I can bookmark that entie page in my browser (Firefox) but that gets a bit messy – I'd rather have a corner of the ME site where I can keep listed all my favourite/useful posts.. This may also give the Moderators an idea of what topics float our boats

Howard, to look at a picture or another thread while in the middle of a reply you can open the same thread or another one in another tab or window. The software lets you have lots open at once.

It has always been possible to enter location in your profile and you can click a box for it to be visible or not.

A lot don't enter or click and a larger number don't even bother to enter a profile so having the facility and it being used are two separate mattersdevil

Mike, you may want to fill in your profile and enter a location there.

When, as happened recently, a member perhaps inadvertently posts to a very old thread there could be an automatic reminder and invitation to start new thread if appropriate.

For as long as I've been using the forum, Spell Check As You Type has been available. It's not the best, maybe, but does allow you (it) to "learn" words that it doesn't immediately recognise. Neither will it correct grammatical errors like there for their or your for you're etc. If it did it would be called a spelling and grammar check as you type, I suppose.

I use the (as you type) spelling checker built into my browser (FF) – language of choice and any words I add are available across all sites.
