I have a laptop running Linux Mint and my email and password box is extended and obscures the text next to it. OK on PC running XP. Both use Firefox bowser.

I have lost all the ads on this site (******) but the post reply box has now shrunk to a square and no options along the top. [Firefox]

My original post that started this thread was 2 years ago and still similar problems with layout for some!

All Ok here on Chrome though.

                Hi all,

I am sitting here with a desktop PC running Windows XP PRO, looking at Wolfie`s post of "Setting odd leg calipers" and the first few posts are covered with the RH side adverts. My 3G mobile is also sitting on the desk here and `fired-up` and is also showing the same post but without being obscured. Can anyone tell me why one is OK and the other is naff? The mob is new this year and obviously runs on an up to date version of whatever software, whilst the version of Windows is probably now classed as ancient. Would this be the reason?

Any advice apart from `junk the `puter` would be welcome. Thanks.

                John

I see the overlap with IE8 (which I don't normally use) but not with FF (14.0.1).

"Compatibility View" fixes it for me with IE.

Had problems with another forum this month; Weihrauch owners club, lots of members couldn't access it, whilst others had no problems. (Air Rifles not dogs). Talking of Stickys, The above forum has some very good ones, ideal for new members etc.

Dave, heres one to look at,Terry Ford's thread "generator Design" in IC Engines, his text goes right under the LH adds, and about a screens width further, if this could be re aranged, it would make reading, and perhaps answering a bit easier. Just a thought, Ian S C

                              Hi There

                              I have not fixed it.

I tried seperating the drawings a minute ago but it looks fine anyway.

                              regards David

                                  Have found this works ;-

Think it depends which browser you are using, I am using [Win 7 Pro – 64 Bit, IE 9 64 Bit] with compatability mode switched OFF and it displayed OK for me.

I thought that the problem with adverts obscuring text was fixed, obviously not. It is really annoying when trying to read other members postings. Is there a "fix" for this, as there is not much point trying to follow a "thread" when you can't read all of it.

I'm getting very fed up with this problem. Compaiibility has no effect. Why should I change my operating system ? No other forum has this problem. Will stop using it soon, I know it will be my loss and not yours, but it getting on my nerves.

                                              Hi Richard

You advise setting compatability view in the tools option. Just where in the tools is this? I use Firefox but I've also tried Internet Explorer and Chrome and can't find it in any of them.

Norman, Gordon + anyone else with this prob.

My screen shows a toolbar above this Forum. If I click on TOOLS in this toolbar, a drop down box appears with the 4th option of COMPATIBILITY VIEW. If I click on this, another small box appears saying that model-engineer.co is now working in compatibility. Goin back to click on TOOLS, the COMPATIBILITY VIEW now has a tick and you will find that the Forum text is no longer obscured by the adverts. I am using an old version of IE browser on Windows XP Pro. and a 4 yr old Acer dual-core desktop `puter. I think its IE7, but not sure.

                                                Hope this helps. John

                                                  Hi John

Thanks for the info. but sadly that doesn't fix it. I opened my 64bit version of IE ( I'm running win7 64bit version) and located the compatability button. My test was the recent Elephant Hawk Moth thread ( Started 18/18 – last post 20/8) which has the problem due to a long URL posted on the 19/8. Clicking the compatability button had no effect. How does that thread look on your machine?
