      Hello

I have a Fortis Vice F6. There is a screw either side of the main slide to keep it central. I need to replace one of the screws but am at a loss when it comes to ordering the correct thread. It's one inch long by half inch diameter. At one end it has a slotted head and bevel cupped head.

If any one can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

      Thanks

If the thread is 1/2" diameter, you need to check the pitch and thread form (Whitworth at a blind guess )

Once you have the dimensions of the screw and the thread, you will know what to order; or even make if you have a suitable lathe

From your description, it sounds like a countersink head.

Given that there are two of the screws and you only need one, remove the one you do have and take a picture of it on a piece of graph paper.

There is a picture of a F6 here:

The screw to which the OP is referring is the slot head one just under the anvil behind the fixed jaw, above the 'S' of FORTIS.

My guess is that 'bevel cupped head' would translate to 'cup point' in fastener terminology.

If it is 1/2" BSW, the closest off-the-shelf I can find is at the bottom of this page:

            https://www.ba-bolts.co.uk/bswallen.html

It is only 3/4" long. Buy two so both sides match or put a 1/4" long brass spacer under it.

Well done with the pic, DC31K. I would suggest there would definitely be a wearing part under the grub screw – acting like a gib for alignment. It may still be in there but likely, as you say, needing a brass insert under the screw.
