Foden steam tractor in Russia

Can anyone help me find a photo and article printed in an issue of ME in the 1950’s.

 

It concerns a Foden steam tractor in a technical college in Russia ( then the USSR) written by someone visiting the technical college from a similar establishment in the UK.

 

The article includes a front view of the steam tractor with the Foden logo clearly visible. There are one or two men in the foreground.

 

I am researching the history of the Foden M type tractors, built between 1928 and 1931. These used the same boiler and engine unit as the last Foden steam wagon, the Speed Six. The tractor in Russia is one of them.

Have you tried asking on traction talk forum. The guys there seem to know the wareabouts of just about every traction engine, steam wagon, and portable still in existance in the farthest corners of the world.

I’ve been on this quest a while now and have eliminated a lot of loose ends.

I know the vehicle in question was exported to South Africa and was last heard of there in 1936 but a rumour current in SA in 1982 told of its export to Russia. The trouble is that Russia is a big country and institutions there are not good at responding to enquiries from an English speaker.
