Hi all, just managed to get hold of an old Fobco Star 1/2 cap pillar drill…iv been after one for a while as i remember my father had one for many years. Iv started stripping it down to replace the quill bearings as there seemed to be quite a bit of side movement. In taking it apart i managed to snap one of the circles located inside the quill housing! can anyone tell me where i can get a replacement please or what size i need? im assuming both circlips are the same size

Thanks for any help on this

Hi Anthony welcome to the forum. I don't know what the dimensions are but l have a stash of useful sizes and know locally where I can buy them from. It may help to say where you are from ie locality so people can help.

Hi David, i live in porthcawl South Wales but originally from west sussex. Im not sure if the circles are metric or imperial? i also need to get hold of replacement bearings which i believe is not easy as these are discontinued machines

Considering the age of Fobco drilling machines it’s a pretty fair bet everything is imperial, including bearings.

I agree with Baz, they will be imperial. We have a bench mount Fobco 7- Eight at the museum. There is information on Fobco drills on lathes UK:
