Hi, Dose anyone know of a flexible pipe of about 5/16″ that I can use between my boiler and my various steam engines so that I can run them on the bench. I would rather not use copper pipe so that I can position them anywhere on the bench as and when I run each steam engine. It would have to be heat proof and pressure proof up to about 100 psi. Any ideas please.

A starting point for the type of hose you seek might be here:

        Flexible Steam Hose

Think about in what commercial application the hose might be used and pursue those leads.

Possibly braided stainless steel brake hoses? The inner hose is teflon, with a braided kevlar sleeve over that, With another sleeve and then the braided stainless. Pretty tough stuff and available commonly from car and motorbike suppliers and brake shops etc. Not cheap though.

Or possibly, maybe, the braided stainless hoses made to go under your kitchen sink and connect the tap/s to the plumbing. Must be able to tolerate hot water and mains pressure can be as much as 80PSI so if they are overdesigned a bit might do the job.

At 80 psi I have used 2wire hydraulic hose with 1/4″ BSP female fittings crimped on then you can use adapters to suit. With a working pressure of 4000psi it won’t fail even at the elevated temp. If your near me (kings Lynn) I can give you one. Noel.

The hose is about £6 a metre, and basic reusable fittings start at £3.50 each. Making your own, custom, stainless brake hose is cheaper than buying a rubber one…

Thanks for all the info, and thanks Noel, but I live in Jersey.
