        Hello all,

I've been a "lurker" on here for a while. I have no experience of machining metal except in the most basic ways and it's unlikely I'll be able to start doing so in the near future having run out of space in the current workshop. Hopefully when I eventually do make a start, I'll have picked up enough knowledge from places like this to avoid making some of the more common beginners' mistakes!

I do however enjoy the bending, folding soldering side of things and currently have an idea for a little doo-dah for the upcoming birthday of SWMBO which involves the purchase of some flat copper, 4mm thick and 100mm wide, length to be determined, but I'm having huge problems finding it for sale – can anyone point me in the right direction?

        Any help gratefully received…

        Cobbs.

You may well find that stockists of 4mm sheet such as **LINK**

will cut that size for you. The fact they show sheet priced per sq foot hasn't stopped them happily selling me 9" widths. Long lengths may be more of an issue than width.

Thanks for that! They've gone straight into my bookmarks and I'll give them a ring this afternoon…

              Welcome Cobbs!

If you can find a post by John Stevenson I know he found a good source of 4mm copper last week so you could send him a personal message and ask him where from.

              Neil

                Thanks Neil,

I've already ordered from the link supplied by pgk pgk, but I've got plenty of room left in my bookmarks folder and it always pays to have more than one source for things! I'll see if John can help…

OK I use Smiths Metal Centres Ltd for most of my non-ferrous. They are a national chain with, according to their web site, **LINK** , 14 centres.

I collected a piece last week to make some largish copper washers 4" or so in diameter.

                  I collected a piece 500mm x 398mm in 4mm thick.

The price, pre VAT was £56.35 which works out to £26.33 per square foot.

                  Proof:-

There was no delivery charge as they are quite local to me and I collected as i needed it.

This isn't a trade account, I pay as I go along.

Guess who I'll be using next time…

                    Thanks John.
