There have been several comments about the “flashing” adverts on the forums.
This is not just irritating, it can affect some people quite badly (SHMBO is one!).
To turn them off in Internet Explorer:

      Go into the “tools” menu,
select “internet options” and go into the “advanced” tab.
Scroll down to the “Multimedia” section.
Uncheck the “Play animations in web pages” option.
      Restart internet explorer.

      Hope this helps.

Same in Firefox, download an add-on called Add Block Plus and they all go away.

However that’s not really the answer, the advertisers pay to advertise on the site and if everyone switches them off they are not getting any value at all.

No the onus is on the web site to make it readable instead or suffer loss of traffic.

One banner on the right hand side says “Support our Partners” how can i support them when it doesn’t allow me time to apply a truss.

I just size the window so the adverts are out of view! except on the prehistoric pc in the workshop where they fall off the edge of the screen naturally.
Apart from that – what John said

I am sure the web wizards are counting all the through clicks to see how much traffic they generate. ME are probably getting a small revenue stream from them which will help to keep the mag going so I don’t think its that much of a hardship. The odd click through now and again I am sure will help also to prove their placement is worth it to the suppliers.

Although reading the above perhaps that’s the last thing people want to do

                Hi There
I have asked for the adverts to be faded in and out.
Don’t know if it will happen.
                regards David

Thank you David, one point I have noticed  with web designers is that the word simple is not in their vocabulary.

Most web designers are pyrotechnic engineers in disguise .

I did what you suggested and it is like a different web site; I could not put up with the flashing adverts for more than a minute or so, now I can read everything at leisure.

Yes, I agree that the adverts are probably a good thing for the magazines’ income but I cannot believe that making them more readable and less annoying is going to reduce their effectiveness.

                    Thanks again

Another Thank You John Ladlow…..I agree with every word you have wrote Paul…..If there’s anything I hate it’s flashing popups…..I’m just glad you brought it to our attention John…..I wouldn’t have had a clue how to go about stopping them…..Much easier to read now and I can now concentrate on what I want to read…..Thanks again…Ken.
