Finishing brass straps around boiler

Dear all

Below is 'the usual way' of securing thin brass straps around a boiler (or condenser in this case). It's pretty ugly and I usually try to hide them out of sight.

Is there a better way of doing this? I was thinking along the lines of a very small jubilee clip arrangement soldered to the ends of the straps.

I silver solder small squares of brass, say 3/32" thick, each end of the strap instead of the bends shown above. One is drilled and tapped a small BA size, the other a close clearance hole. This dispenses with the separate nut and the squares stay fairly well parallel.

The screw should be as short as practicable.

I have done the same as Clive describes. On your photo simply rounding the ends of the straps would make things more presentable.
