Anyone made one, any tips? I’ve got some 6/4 Titanium rod in a suitable size I could use.

I’ve made quite a few titanium rings, they are beautiful and pretty resilient.

I turned mine from solid round bar, which is wasteful, but easier to make to a size.

Just bore into the bar end deep enough for your ring and part off before polishing.

Look online for ideas on decorating, I did a nice one that was diamond knurled.

I made a form tool to radius the inner edges of the ring so there are no sharp angled edges to limit comfort or what I call getting on and offability.

Really nice little projects and gifts. I also do pendants with pearl inlay wich look good.

Back in the sixties the popular thing was to make one out of a two shilling piece and give it to your girlfriend.

You would drill a hole to mount it on stub arbor then spin it to leave the date inside (her birth year of course)

Finally bore out the middle to size.

The only problem was that by the late 40’s / early 50’s the silver content was quite low which made it harder to spin unless annealed and could send the wearer’s finger green.

Thanks for that Plasma. I hadn’t thought too much about decoration. I’ll probably copy my weeding ring which is a plain band, flat on the outside but curved on the inside for comfort.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I did one which I polished and then played a gas flame over and that blued the metal giving a lovely varied colour all over. It didn’t wear off at all which surprised me.</p>

Oh, that sounds good Plasma. 😉

I read years ago that when Anodised Titanium is self colouring. The exact colour is dependent on the voltage or current? You can get rainbow effects buy altering it as the component is withdrawn from the solution.

For background reading/viewing … have look for the colouration of Titanium motorcycle-exhausts.

Hi, I did one with a Iwo Bob bit, over forty years ago, but mine was done over many days, a bit a at a time (five/ten minutes), by holding it between my thumb and figure and penning the edge with a small hammer while rotating it at the same time. It was then stuck in the lathe chuck, and the middle was drilled out and bored as big as possible, without cutting into the wording or the date. It was then jammed onto a piece of wood in the chuck, to tidy up the outside, with finer and finer grades of silicon carbide paper.

                    Ring

                    Regards Nick.
