At present my favoured solution is the one mentioned in post-717106 (! March)
Andy
I used the forum search to find 717106 but it failed miserably. It took about 20 seconds to bring up Andy’s post (with the above text) number 717875
Apart from its poor functionality, Why are the search button/s so well hidden?
I’m almost reluctant to mention or ask questions about the forum software as I feel the team at Mortons have no interest or enthusiasm (or pride even!) to improve the product.
if you can bear the sight of pages of code (most of which is unnecessary) look at the code (control u in most browsers) – there are no labels by which enter a page midway – the whole essence of this grotesquely engineered system is to generate unique pages on the fly – it only works because by now most users are on high speed lines and have powerful processors
Rather strangely, Frances … Using the iPad, if I long-press on any of these recent posts, and then select ‘Open in new Tab’ [or whatever] it works as expected … but if I copy the link and paste that into a Post that I am composing; it does the other thing !
It’s going all a bit off topic, but linking to an individual post works ok
Just copy the URL of the top right hand blue post number.
As I recall, you need to then insert it As An Embedded Link like this which should then open the overall topic with this post at the head of the relevant page.
Just inserting the link like this may not give the same result; screenshot below so it doesn’t auto-resolve
That link is inserted directly below to allow the site to resolve it.
Where I struggle, is how to search the forum for a post number, unless you know the topic title.
In which case, just open any post in that topic and edit the last number in the URL.
Yes I know it’s messy
Do you think the lack of a feature to find a post by number would be classified as a ‘bug’ and therefore reportable to Andy, or do you think its not worth bothering with?
I know you, Dave and Jason have done sterling work in the last few months but I, as a mere participant have no idea how busy behind the scenes the admin folk so thought you might just have an insight.
