It was Lamborghini that made tractors.

      And Hardly Dangerous

      No that was Laverda. (Really.)

Harley Ferguson made bowling alley machinery and golf carts!

The one that amazes me is AC

They made beauties like the Ace and Aceca, but the big production run was the Invacar.

… I wonder what Caroll Shelby would have made of that dont know

Dear sirs, according to the interweb thingy the ferrari emblem originally adorned the aircraft of an italian WW1 fighter ace, who knew ? With regard to the rampant horse of Aveling & Porter I think I am on firmer ground, it is the emblem of the county of Kent, Invicta was the steed of a saxon warlord, the horses name is Olde English for Unconquered, I am assuming that in those days they didn't give them the sort of dopey names used in modern times. There is a fine example of such a brass emblem on the wall behind my computer as I type, being a stallion the original version had a willy, which was deleted in the more 'enlightened times' we live in, during the many years I worked for Aveling Barford I watched him deteriorate from his original form to aluminium casting, alloy pressing, & the final ignominy, a ( pick your own expletive ) vinyl sticker, how are the mighty fallen, a parallel to what was happening to our industrial heritage over the same time period.

Michael G, in the late 50s a young man lived down our street who worked in a large main dealers garage, he campaigned an AC & a Vincent Black Shadow this was obviously in the days before we where "all in it together", I did get to ride in it & when he flicked the switch for the electric supercharger is the moment when my own Adrenalin Poisoning began, I therefore believe that the answer with regard to that nice Mr. Shelby is an Invacar that would hold the World Land Speed record in perpetuity.

The car badge that amused me when I first saw it was the tortoise adorning the badge of the Gordon Keeble, a British supercar of the 1960s which boasted the fastest 0 to 100 mph time of any production car. More than 90 out of the production of 100 still exist.

Another maker of invalid cars, as they were known in the era, was Derry Preston-Cobb, who also built the Greeves motorcycle. Derry was disabled, and his invalid car had a special, hot engine. The rumour was, when I worked for Motorcycle News in the mid 1960s, that he got ticked off by the law for tailgating a police car at 80mph on the London-Southend dual carriageway. It was never my good fortune to meet him, but he was said to be a wonderful character

Ferraris' main business is building tractors, ranging from walk behind two wheel rotary hoes, ride on lawn mowers, to large four wheel agricultural types, they build a few cars on the side.

Before you all shout at me, it was Bert Greeves who built the bike and founded the company. Derry was a relative who was also an executive of the company.

Didn't David Brown build some F1 cars?

Ian, I seem to remember there was an Aston Martin F1 car back in the days of the 2.5 litre Formula, but I think it only competed for a couple of seasons. It was a rather heavy, front-engined car, when the trend was towards the lightweight mid-engined Cooper. I also seem to remember there was a Ferguson 4WD F1 car in the era. My memory is a bit rusty after around 60 years!

Starting 1950, after David Brown(Sir), bought the company, all Aston Martin cars had/have DB-***. David Brown did race a car 1959/60 without much success.

Didn't some one about this time try a three axle car on the track?
