Fancy locknut!

I’ve been given a load of the nuts shown, they are 5/16 UNF yellow passivated steel and appear to have a locking feature, I was wondering what their application would be?  I’m sure someone has come across them and can advise…

Certainly it’s intended as a low profile locking nut.
Try “binx nut” as a search term

Hi Henry, yes, exactly what peak 4 says, he just beat me to it. Have used them in the distance past, and the work very well. May even have a few myself somewhere.

Bill, Nick, thanks for the replies!  I’ve never hear or seen them before so you learn something every day!
Pity they aren’t metric as whoud have been very handy!

I know Aerotight, which have the cut on the outside (Links to a pdf download.)

There’s some useful info on Wiki, but probably needs updating/clarifying
