My wife returned from a charity shop scavenging expedition with this:

It is obviously some sort of eyelet or rivet setting tool, but I'm wondering how it would be used. I'm sure someone on here will know!

As an aside I had a look for Maun Industries and it seems that they started in 1944 making hand tools and are still a going concern based near Nottingham, though now making only parallel-action pliers. I think I shall get some.

          Hi

their pliers are wonderful, various sizes, plane (Plain?) or Ribbed inside jaw etc.

Use the Hole punch (If you have one) to make a hole in the fabric.

Put the peg of the Press stud back through hole,

          turn fabric over,

put other part of press stud over peg.

          Put back on Anvil

          Use punch to spread peg.

          EDIT,

I just realized you dont have any press studs, and They are the sort used on Belstaff motorcycle jackets

Loads of tools available using the same concept, Robin

Try here for some basic instruction: **LINK**

The trick will be to find components that fit the Maun tool.

This Newey tool has a very similar pair of punches and a reversible die. You'll need the correct kit of parts to use it.

I have a plier type hole punch with a rotating head and a yard long straight edge both made by Maun

Hi, I have a small Press Fasteners set, which is used in the same way as shown in the instructions that Rod has posted.

                  poppet set.jpg

I also have a small Eyelet plier set, which the Eyelets have about a 4.4mm hole, which are really self explanatory to use.

Lastly I have a large Eyelet set with 7/16" holes, and is shown here with their instructions of how to fit them.

They all work very well, even though they were not very expensive.

                  Regards Nick.

The one above is great for putting eyelets in tarpaulins Etc where you fold over the edge by 2" TO GIVE GREATER STRENGTH. Noel.

Thanks all – looks like it's a press-stud setting tool then. Probably not much use to me at present, but you can never have too many tools and good to know how it works.

Maun pliers now on wish list!

                        Robin.
